We begin with Psalm 40, a piece of poetry written by King David that has shaped me personally in the midst of great trial, but also resonates as a prayer for all of humanity:
1 I waited patiently for the Lord to help me,
and he turned to me and heard my cry.
2 He lifted me out of the pit of despair,
out of the mud and the mire.
He set my feet on solid ground
and steadied me as I walked along.
3 He has given me a new song to sing,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see what he has done and be amazed.
They will put their trust in the Lord.
There are many important things to notice here: patience, God’s faithfulness and grace, worship, trust… the list goes on and on. This is some pretty profound poetry.
But I draw us to what I believe is the main point of this passage, the most crucial action God takes as He enters into David’s situation (hint: it’s underlined). We are tempted to see the previous line as most important. I mean, God lifts David out of a terrible place, away from an overwhelming situation. This is truly miraculous, and should not be ignored.
However, what good is it to be lifted out of a miry pit if you are placed in a den of snakes?
The true miracle is that God gives David, and each of us, a firm place to stand.
He is our support.
Centuries after David penned this psalm, Jesus came onto the scene and announced that He was the solid rock, the firm foundation on which we build our lives. And we, as a mission team, are standing on this foundation as we prepare for this trip. Jesus taught about the Kingdom of God, and has himself become king. In response, we worship him, and perhaps, as psalm 40 says, many would hear our song and see what God has done and trust him.
But there is still a sort of pit we are in. We believe we have God’s support in this, and in order to continue our partnership with Open Roads Ministry in Craiova (which you can read about in one of the tabs above), our team has to cultivate your support. We humbly ask for your prayers and encouragement as well as any financial resources you willing to generously give to this mission.
Giving financially is simple. Just click here and follow the steps (make sure you select the Romania trip). We hope you are able to join Blackhawk and Open Roads on this adventure as we stand together on Jesus, the solid rock, and experience His unbelievable support through his grace and love.
